ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Albany city leaders honor four lifesaving firefighters.
Captain Kevin Prince was named Firefighter of the Year.
The 18 year Albany Fire Department veteran says he wanted to be a firefighter to help people.
He saved his niece's life during a summer beach trip when she got knocked off her boogie board by a large wave.

"It's a very humbling honor,” said Kevin Prince, Firefighter of the Year Recipient. “I don't feel like I did anything that anyone else in that situation would've done. I do appreciate the recognition by Chief and the Department."

John Beamon, Michael Padgett, and Derrick Eldrige were also given Medals of Valor for their heroic actions to save a man who nearly drowned in a pool in August.

"We're just honored to be recognized by our department and the citizens of the city of Albany,” said John Beamon, Medal of Valor Recipient.
