Law enforcers stress school bus safety

DOUGHERTY CO., GA (WALB) - A 4-year old Lanier County boy remains hospitalized in fair condition, but he is improving after being hit by a car at his school bus stop.

Police officers say they can't stress enough that it is the law to stop when a school bus activates its lights and stop sign.
Dougherty County Police say they see a lot of cars speeding in school zones.
They urge drivers not to be in a rush.

"The best thing you can do you know is when you see a school bus activating it's lights and the stop sign comes out just stop," said Patrolman Jeffery McCray, Dougherty County Police. "A child's life is way more important than trying to hurry up and be somewhere."

The search continues for the driver who ignored a bus stop sign Monday morning on Highway 125 then kept going after hitting 4-year old Xavier Myers.
