COOK CO., GA (WALB) - An international ag chemical company based in California was one step closer Tuesday to opening up a plant in Cook County.
Tuesday morning, a ground breaking ceremony was held for Custom Ag Formulators, Inc. at the Cook County Mega site on Hwy. 41 just south of Adel.
16 jobs are being created as a result of the plant and the company's CEO, Jerry Steward, says at least that many more could be created in the near future.
He says he's confident the plant will be successful here in south Georgia and will have a big impact on the local economy.
"I'd say very confident. Very confident. We've already got business out here and the way the city here, Cook County, has opened their arms to us there's no way we couldn't be," Steward explained.
Steward said the plant will be built to handle both liquid and solid fertilizers. "Phase one is a 20,000 sqft. building with a huge tank farm area.for storage," Steward said.
Continued Steward, "sometime after that will be phase two. Phase one, strictly liquid fertilizers. Phase two will be getting to more dry [fertilizers] and also blending, too."
The plant is expected to be up and running by January 1st.
