LEESBURG, GA (WALB) - The North Leesburg Bypass is officially open.
Georgia House Speaker David Ralston cut the ribbon on the new road that connects U-S Highway 19 to Georgia Highway 195.
State Senator Greg Kirk says the bypass has been a long time coming and will greatly relieve school traffic in Leesburg.
"Along time coming," said Senator Greg Kirk, ( R ) District 13. "If you've been around Leesburg much at all in the mornings or afterschool you know what traffic jam happens right up there around those railroad tracks so this is going to be a big relief."
The bypass took 10 years of planning before construction started in May 2013.
