VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The city of Valdosta is trying to help clean up the environment by collecting bulky trash items for free.
From 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at four locations around the city, residents can drop off any bulky items that they want to get rid. Hazardous materials, yard waste, electronics, and tires will not be accepted.
You'll have to bring a utility bill and a photo ID with you and you can only bring one load of stuff.
Keep Lowndes Valdosta Beautiful is coordinating the event. Executive Director Aaron Strickland says he's looking forward to seeing all of the items that are collected.
"We'd much rather see them collected at an event like this than find it down in a river or a stream at a 'Rivers Alive' event or in a vacant lot somewhere during another clean up," said Strickland.
KLVB is also coordinating the picking up of trash along some roads near exit 29 off of I-75, including Main St. in Hahira, Union Rd., and Morven Rd. Some Lowndes County businesses have also adopted a seven mile stretch of Rocky Ford Rd. and will be picking up trash there.
Bulky trash collection locations:
- The empty lot at the corner of Ganier St. and Summerlin St.
- Scott Park
- The VLPRA on N. Forrest St.
- The Valdosta City Hall Annex building
