In a fishing competition including around 120 boats, an Albany man took home the championship this past weekend in Louisiana.
In the Cabela's IFA Redfish tour championship, Ryan Tiernan and his fishing partner Jamie Hough not only scored the biggest fish, but won the competition altogether.
The two-angler tandem finished Friday in 5th place, but on the second day, in the midst of a storm, they caught the largest fish of the championship on the team's way to a victory and about $50,000 worth of prizes.
Tiernan and Hough from South Carolina were confident after defying odds early on the final day.
"The second day took a big turn, explained Tiernan. "The weather got bad. The wind was blowing about 20 knots. That made it tough on a lot of people. Fortunately the fish that we were fishing did not move and we knew they were there. So we had to do a lot of casting but we ended up catching the two winning fish by like 8:15 in the morning."
Tiernan has been fishing for 8 years. It wasn't his first fishing championship, and he doesn't plan on making it his last.
