THOMAS CO., GA (WALB) - Thomas County's Sheriff wants to expand the area's drug division.
The Sheriff office and the Thomasville Police Department provide agents for the drug unit. Sheriff Carlton Powell is asking the county commission and city council to give more funding so they can hire an additional drug agent to get more drugs off the street.
Sheriff Carlton Powell says, "Drugs are such a source of not only drug trafficking but they're the source of an awfully lot of other crimes that we have going on."
The Sheriff's Office already plans to send another deputy to the drug unit to replace an agent who is going to work full time for the police department.
