ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Keep Albany Dougherty Beautiful is looking for volunteers to clean up the Flint River.
They'll hold their 11th annual Rivers Alive Cleanup Saturday.
More than a thousand volunteers have collected more than 45 tons of debris over the years.
They've even found refrigerators, stoves, and cars.
Volunteers will walk the banks or use canoes and kayaks to clean the river.
"We've taken most of the big debris out, but for some reason people think if you throw it in the water and you can't see it, it's gone," said Judy Bowles, KADB Executive Director. "That's really a shame because the Flint River is such an asset to our community."
Walking volunteers should meet at 3rd Avenue and the Flint River at 8:30 Saturday.
Boaters should call ahead and register then meet at the Georgia Power Dam also 8:30. You can call 430-5257 for more information.
