MOODY AIR FORCE BASE, GA (WALB) - Around 200 Airmen from the 824th Base Defense Squadron at Moody Air Force Base in Lowndes County were now on their way to southwest Asia Friday evening.
A deployment ceremony was held at the base Friday afternoon. The Airmen will be providing support for air expeditionary operations.
Squadron Commander, Lt. Col. Jeffrey Rowsey, said he has deployed to southwest Asia multiple times but he is especially looking forward to this deployment.
"The 824 is unique in the fact that we have people from many different Air Force specialty codes, in other words different jobs, and we all come together, we all train together, we all work together, and we all deploy together," Lt. Col. Rowsey emphasized.
As of Friday, the deployment was expected to last six months.
