MITCHELL CO., GA (WALB) - Investigators say the same burglar who broke into Godwin's Grocery may have tried to break into another convenience store in Pelham just a few days before.
Surveillance footage outside of Aden's Convenience Store Tuesday night was made available.
In it, a man attempts to throw a piece of asphalt through the front door, but it just bounced off the door frame instead.
"Aden's looked like his first attempt at a burglary, and it happened at around 10:30 that night," said Matt Miller with the Mitchell County Sheriff's Office. "He looks similar with the facial hair, and the characteristics of clothing, the watch, the shoes."
After reviewing the surveillance videos, investigators believe the perpetrator is the same man.
Early Thursday morning the burglar stole nearly $4,000 worth of lottery tickets from Godwin's, and left a mess of shattered glass behind.
"Shortly after your broadcast come out in reference to Ike Godwin's we got a call from Pelham PD in reference to their case they were working at Aden's about an attempted burglary and through comparison of looking at videos we feel strongly that its going to be the same subject," said Miller.
The burglar didn't get inside at Aden's. The noise triggered an alarm and it scared the criminal away.
Investigators now believe they're closer to making an arrest.
