COOK CO., GA (WALB) - South Georgia U.S. Congressman Austin Scott is trying to better understand the needs and concerns of south Georgia farmers.
Congressman Scott spent some time Wednesday morning touring a farm in Cook County and talking with some farmers. It was one of several farms he had toured in south Georgia as part of his two day farm tour.
He said one of the biggest things he talked with farmers about was the issue of labor.
"One of the things I think we can do that would help with our farm based labor is to be to move that immigration aspect to the USDA where it's handled by people who actually understand what farmers go through," said Congressman Scott.
Congressman Scott said he also wants to try to make the H-2A program easier and less costly for farmers to use.
