PERRY, GA (WALB) - In its first weekend, Georgia's first-ever presidential Peanut Poll passed the 2015 Iowa State Fair straw poll in total number of participants.
Georgia's inaugural Peanut Poll is expected to be one of the largest straw polls of the 2016 presidential contest. Voting will continue until the fair's conclusion Oct. 18.
The Peanut Poll had 12,780 votes cast as of 5 p.m. Monday at the Georgia National Fair in Perry, surpassing Iowa's poll in August by more than 8,000 votes.
Results from the first four days of voting showed Republicans Ben Carson and Donald Trump leading the field.
Hillary Clinton was winning among Democrats, ahead of Bernie Sanders.
