US 19 South wreck blamed on driver not stopping

BACONTON, GA (WALB) -

Two vehicles collided, and a third vehicle was then struck, at the intersection of US 19 South and Highway 93, near Baconton, in Mitchell County.

A truck carrying a full load of peanuts for Wilful Seed Co. in Thomasville ran a red light at 8:20AM. A GSP trooper said the truck driver, Tony Atkins,  didn't have enough time to stop. He was charged with running a red light.

The truck driver tried blowing his horn at the Chevy Van, driven by Jeannie Yarger, which had a green light. The truck hit the right rear of the van. As it was rolling over, it hit a green Honda Element.

The Honda Element driver complained of pain and was sent to Archbold Hospital in Thomasville.

The truck is being examined for brake failure.
