VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - Valdosta police were searching Friday for the man they say robbed a woman at gunpoint Thursday night.
Police say 52 year old Rhonda Thagard was walking in to the Holly Hill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 413 Pendleton Pl. to visit her father around 8:30 p.m. when someone ran up to her and forced her to the ground.
She told police the suspect held a gun to her head and stole her purse, car keys, and wallet. Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress reminds everyone to be aware of their surroundings, especially at night, and call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
"A lot of folks think, 'well, it has to be an assault or someone breaking into my home to call 911,'" said Chief Childress. "No. If you see anybody suspicious, dial that number. Dial that three digit number and let's have an officer come out and check."
The suspect is described as a black man wearing black sweats, a red shirt, and a black hoodie.
Call Valdosta police at (229) 293-3091 if you have any information.
