Albany man indicted for multiple burglaries

ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany man is indicted on 11 counts of Burglary, for a spree of storage unit break-ins.

In June and July,  dozens of people's storage units in Lee and Dougherty County were broken into, and thousands of dollars of property stolen out of them.

The man arrested for those burglaries, Todd Anthony Cook, was indicted by the Dougherty County Grand Jury today.

Cook is charged with breaking into 11 storage units in Dougherty County in June and July, targeting electronics and other valuables.  He was finally captured when Lee County Sheriff's Investigators got surveillance video of Cook breaking into a unit.

Dougherty County's District Attorney says he is just as serious as prosecuting a storage unit break in as a home burglary.

"Absolutely. You put your property there with the notion that it is safe and secure.  And generally these facilities have good surveillance and security systems," said Greg Edwards. Dougherty D. A.

And it was those security systems that finally led to Cook's arrest.  Lee County authorities are expected to also bring charges against Cook for break-ins in that jurisdiction.
