ALBANY, GA (WALB) - The Albany Fire Department says their 21st annual Kids Fire Safety Program today was their biggest and best yet.
More than 4,500 kids and mentors attended the annual safety show at the Albany Civic Center.
Albany Firefighters dressed as characters and clowns, and performed skits to get the kids' attention and teach their fire prevention lessons.
"It's very important because it gives a message to students. You catch them at an early age and we are able to prevent fires in the city of Albany and the Southwest Georgia area," said AFD Asst. Chief Rubin Jordan.
The main theme this year was about smoke alarms to protect you while you sleep.
Albany Firefighters say they will start preparing for next year's show tomorrow because it's so important to them.
