ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Following the arrest of an Albany woman, charged in the death of her one month old daughter, the Dougherty County Coroner warns about the dangers of parents sleeping with babies in the same bed.
Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler said bed sharing or co sleeping can lead to tragedy very quickly. Fowler said his office does not see as many deaths from bed sharing as in the past, but still periodically deaths of babies occur.
"Lot of times when you are sleeping you turn over and you don't know. You lay your arms on the baby's nose or face or mouth and suffocate them. Or you can turn and lay on them. Especially if the two parents in the bed, it's very dangerous," Fowler said.
