TERRELL CO., GA (WALB) - A dog that was severely injured by a tether is getting some needed care after its head was nearly severed.
The dog, named Sweetie, had surgery Monday.
Terrell County Animal Control officials were shocked she survived.
Because of her demeanor, they named her Sweetie, and decided to help her.
She is getting better tonight after an operation today at Oakland Veterinary Hospital.
The person who originally called about Sweetie thought she had been hit by a car in Dawson.
Animal Control officers discovered she had been tethered and had wounds 4 inches deep.
She had surgery this morning. She has stitches all around her neck. And we've already have had people inquiring trying to help with donations for the vet bill because it's going to be an extensive recovery," said Martha Ann Coe with Terrell County Animal Control.
Terrell County Animal Control says they want to find the person responsible for this. Dawson does have a no tethering policy
Anyone who would like more information on how to donate or adopt Sweetie can call Animal Control at (229) 995-4410.
