COFFEE CO., GA (WALB) - Nearly 100 people gathered in Douglas on Sunday to remember a Coffee County middle school student who committed suicide.
Julia Lynch was just 13 years old and in 7th grade when she took her own life in June. Her death shocked many in the community.
Family and friends still dealing with the tragic loss wanted to make sure Lynch would not be forgotten. They unveiled a portrait that will carry on her memory through the time she would have graduated high school.
"The portrait will go with her class every year. Next year it will go to the freshman campus then after that it will go to the high school. So we'll be keeping that with her classmates," said counselor Jill Pruitt.
Friends also had a bench made in Lynch's memory that will go in the Coffee Middle School memorial garden.
