VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The man accused of bringing a gun onto a university campus has now been indicted by a grand jury.
Eric Sheppard, was indicted on a felony charge of carrying a weapon in a school safety zone.
Prosecutors said Sheppard, who ignited controversy when he was seen on video with others walking on an American flag in an April protest, carried a gun onto the campus of Valdosta State University.
Sheppard was arrested in June and later granted a $25,000 bond from the Lowndes County Jail.
If convicted, he will face a sentence of 2 to 8 years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
The indictment was announced October 2, 2015 in Lowndes Superior Court.
Officials previously said they had "unmistakable evidence" that links the found gun to Sheppard.
