VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The Valdosta Fire Department was asking Valdosta residents Friday to help light the city pink in honor of breast cancer awareness month.
All month, the Valdosta Fire Department will be using pink light bulbs. Residents can purchase light bulbs from the fire department for a small donation to the "Get A Mammy" organization.
The Valdosta organization helps fund breast cancer research and helps women pay for mammograms and reconstructive surgery.
"We have pink light bulbs that we have for a donation of five dollars and we're burning them at all of our stations and we want all the residents to come out and get light bulbs and burn them as well," said Valdosta Fire Chief Freddie Broome.
Light bulbs can be picked up at fire station 1, located at 106 S. Oak St. For more information about the "Get A Mammy" organization, visit www.getamammy.com.
On October 10th, WALB will host the Buddy 10K race at Cheehaw Park in Albany to help fight breast cancer. All of the proceeds from the run will go to the Cancer Coalition of South Georgia.
