ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Befriending a woman, an East Albany man and his wife are beaten and robbed. Now, police are looking for  a woman who robbed a couple after asking to use their phone. The robber took money and guns from their house.

84 year old David Clearman and his wife Eloise are bruised and in a lot of pain, but glad they were not hurt worse in this robbery. About 10:00 Tuesday morning David Clearman said a large woman knocked on his door asking to use the phone.

Clearman let her in, and gave her a glass of water.  "See, I was raised up in an all together different time. Used to you could trust people," Clearman said.

But then the woman demanded money, and pushed Clearman down, took his wallet, and then started ransacking the house. "She had one thing in mind.  She had robbery in mind."

Clearman said "I had a pistol in the box beside the bed.  She found it. Got it. It was a .38 special I had,  had since, oh 60 years ago." The woman  took a second pistol and a jar of change before heading toward the door to leave.

"Eloise was down there close to the door. She just grabbed her and threw her out of the way."

Eloise Clearman suffered a cut on her head and back pain, David a pulled hamstring and pulled muscles.

But the fear about what could have happened is also painful. "She's pretty upset about it.  People invading your home.  A whole different thing," Clearman said.
David Clearman said the doors to their home will stay locked from now on.  And they won't answer if someone they don't know knocks.

Clearman said the  woman was large, dressed all in black and a hoodie over her head.
