VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

Valdosta State University is trying to help migrant families understand the importance of getting a college education.

The university's associate director of admissions, Ryan Hogan, says the number of migrant families that come to the university for information about getting a higher education grows every year.

Hogan says that makes reaching out to migrant families extremely important.

"What we're looking to do is show them that higher ed is attainable for them and specifically the support we have in place for students of migrant families," Hogan explained. "Education is that key that can unlock the rest of their lives."

Thursday, around 200 migrant students and their families were scheduled to tour the campus Saturday to learn about what a college education can offer them.
