VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - An Army veteran from Hahira is honored for his heroism more than 45 years after he was killed in the Vietnam war.
Wednesday morning, a portion of Shiloh Rd. was officially named in honor of Cpl. John E. McDonald. One half mile of the road in each direction from McDonald Rd. will now be known as Cpl. John E. McDonald Memorial Highway.
McDonald's brother, Leon, said this makes him really proud. "We're getting something done for the soldiers that died in different wars. Maybe we can get all of them honored. That's what I'd like to see," said McDonald.
Cpl. McDonald was killed at Thau Thien on April 15th, 1969.
