President Carter to travel to Nepal for Habitat For Humanity

ATLANTA, GA (WALB) -

Former President Jimmy Carter will celebrate his 91st birthday Thursday, but Habitat for Humanity is already celebrating his announcement today.

The Plains native today announced he will travel to Nepal with Habitat For Humanity International, despite undergoing cancer treatment.
Carter had planned the home building trip before his public announcement of his cancer diagnosis in August.

Habitat's CEO, Jonathan Reckord, said Carter's presence in Nepal will be life changing.

"It's one of the poorest countries in the world and there is tremendous need," said Reckford.  "So his coming allows us to bring great attention to the huge need and bring a huge number of volunteers."

Habitat officials say a medical team will be with President Carter on the 32nd Annual Habitat For Humanity Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter work project in Nepal in November.
