SUMTER CO., GA (WALB) - Sheriff Pete Smith is holding another handgun class for women, and registration is now open.
Sheriff Smith said attendance was great at two previous events. The purpose isn't to teach the women how to shoot someone; they just want them to know how to handle the gun in case something happens.
"If the situation should arrive to where somebody should have to do that, if they're home is broken into, we want them to know safe handling of a firearm and how to use it," said Sheriff Smith.
The class will be held October 15th and has room for about about 40 women.
