Being an informed voter is important

VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

An event was scheduled to get underway at 5:30 p.m. in Valdosta to give citizens a chance to meet some of the candidates running for city offices.

The event was scheduled to be held at the Valdosta City Hall Annex, located at 300 N. Lee St., which is just across the street from Valdosta City Hall.

Valdosta Mayoral candidates J.D. Rice and Mayor John Gayle were both expected to be at the event along with several city council candidates from districts one, three, and five.

Some Valdosta Board of Education candidates were also expected to be there.

The Lowndes County Board of Elections Office reminds citizens that events like these are one of the best ways to make an informed decision when they cast their votes starting next month, which will ultimately affect them on a daily basis.

"To get out there and know your candidates, what they're over and what they actually help you with, is what's going to affect you every day, your schools and things like that," said Lowndes County Board of Elections Administrative Secretary Tiffany Linkswiler.

The event was scheduled to run until 7 p.m.
