Broad Avenue bridge nears completion

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Crews are putting the finishing touches on Albany's new Broad Avenue Bridge, but there's still no opening date set.

Right now, crews are painting the stripes on the road. DOT officials say there are a few more things that must also be done.

They're not sure when the bridge will open. "In the next several weeks or sooner, you'll see stripping on the bridge and smaller activities perform so traffic can be open,"  said Chad Hartley of the Georgia Department of Transportation.

The state shut down the old Broad Avenue Bridge more than six and half years ago because inspectors said scouring on the bridge supports under the water made it unsafe.
