Restaurant owner asks residents for help after repeat burglaries
Corey Dunbar has been cooking at his restaurant for more than 15 years
ALBANY, GA (WALB) -
A South Albany business owner is calling on residents to look out for businesses after crooks targeted his place again.
Corey Dunbar says the burglars kicked in his front door, and just caused damage without really taking anything, so he's asking for your help.
Dunbar has been cooking at his restaurant in Albany for more than 15 years, and recent damage caused by burglars has him fed up.
"They messed up the door, I got to buy another door. They broke the windows. I got to fix the windows," said Dunbar.
The most recent burglary happened early Monday morning. The crooks tore up the cash register and stole Dunbar's homemade desserts.
"Who steals desserts? So they stole all my desserts and stuff and a little change that I had around here," said Dunbar.
The crimes are even more frustrating to Dunbar given his reputation within the community.
"They know that I am a giving person and like, it shouldn't be where somebody is breaking in somebody's establishment. It's like, there's no need," said Dunbar.
As a result of this, Dunbar says he's spent around $2,500 placing bars over the windows and fixing the broken doors and windows. He says cameras are just too expensive.
"I don't have the money and stuff like the big time corporations so at the end of the day this mom and pop store, I just need the help of the community to watch out so I can keep continuing to do my lunch specials," said Dunbar. "At the end of the day we are all here trying to make something happen in this community," he said.
Dunbar hopes to be able to find some sort of cheap video surveillance camera system to install before the holidays, but says his best security may be the people who live around here.
