ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany Area YMCA afterschool program kicked off its dinner partnership with the school system tonight.
The 21st Century Program began its DCSS "Third Meal Program" at Martin Luther King and Alice Coachmen Elementary Schools.
This is the second year the program has provided evening meals for students each school day.
The director says it's a great addition to the program.
"It helps us with our attendance because kids do want to eat the meals," said Erin Hutchins, Program Director. "We do know that kids sometimes do go without food. It's just a place where the kids can come and they know they're going to get a good meal in the afternoon on top of the tutoring and enrichment that we provide as well."
The dinner program will start at Live Oak Elementary School October 12th.
