FBI issues scam alert

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A scam alert from the FBI.
Con artists are targeting college students in Georgia and other states claiming to represent the FBI or other government agencies.
They say the student has loans or overdue parking fees that must be paid immediately through moneygram.
The callers claim students will be arrested or won't graduate if they don't pay.
The FBI says they do not operate that way.

"The FBI number flashes up it spoofs onto the caller I-D of that person so the FBI wants to make it real clear we do not operate that way and that this is a scam,” said Special Agent Stephen Emmett, FBI. “Individuals are to not give out their information to these unsolicited phone calls."

You can file a complaint with the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center by clicking here.
