TIFTON, GA (WALB) -

The Tifton Police Department is requesting the public’s help in a death investigation, involving what looks like a possible hit-and-run.

Between 10:00 PM and 10:30 PM Saturday night September 26, 62 year old Tifton resident Jannie B. Lester was struck and killed while she was walking on Armour Road, between Belmont Avenue and Tyson Avenue.

She was found by a passing motorist who called 911.  It appears that she was struck by an unknown vehicle.

Tifton Police say they do not know why the driver left the scene.  It could be that they were just scared, according to Detective Billy Jones, who is the lead investigator on this case.

TPD is asking that anyone that was traveling in that area that night during that time frame to report anything that they may have seen at (229) 382-3132.

Detectives say it could be that a vehicle was stopped in the middle of the road and they did not know why at the time.  Any information could be helpful.
