WAYCROSS, GA (WALB) - The Waycross Fire Department just received a grant to get 3,000 smoke alarms that they plan to handout during neighborhood blitzes.
Waycross Fire Chief David Eddins said the department is trying to make sure every home has one.
Firefighters keep smoke detectors on their trucks. If they go on a call and see a home doesn't have one, they'll install one.
"It's a national campaign that we try to do, sometimes people just forget about those little white pieces of equipment sitting on their wall, so we make sure that we keep reminding them and sending that message home," said Chief Eddins.
They were awarded the Chesney grant from the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation.
