MOULTRIE, GA (WALB) - Officials at Colquitt County High School confirmed that a suspected case of MRSA was actually a case of general staph infection.
According to a report, authorities thought a football player at the high school may have had MRSA but was since cleared by the health department.
All other members of the team were also checked.
Four high school players and eight junior high school players who had a rash or infection were referred to a doctor but were also confirmed to not have staph.
School and health officials are working with athletic dept and janitorial staff to prevent another case.
They said they will recheck all eight grade students next week in weightlifting and other athletic events.
