WAYCROSS, GA (WALB) - The Waycross fire chief was recognized on Friday as Georgia's fire chief of the year.
Chief David Eddins started his work in Albany for several years before going to Waycross. He was surprised when he was presented the award at the Georgia Association of Fire Chiefs joint conference.
"We are very proud of Chief Eddins, you know my very first day, when I was rookie firefighter, he was a senior firefighter and we started together, we fought a lot of fires together, so for him to get this honor I'm real proud of him," said Assistant Chief Sebon Burnes.
Firefighters at the conference also received fire prevention training. Chief Eddins said that cooking fires remain the number one cause of fires in Georgia.
