CRISP CO., GA (WALB) - Explosive growth at Georgia ports will have a direct impact on our area.
The CEO of the Port Authority announces $142 million in expansion and improvements over the next year in Brunswick and mainly Savannah.
Cordele has a direct rail connection to the port and chamber officials say the expansion will bring more imports through Cordele Intermodal Services.
"They're not going to be able to handle all the traffic from all those imports that are coming in," said Monica Simmons, Cordele-Crisp County Chamber of Commerce. "So, with us having the Cordele Inland Services here they will be able to bring more of those containers by train."
The expansion in Savannah includes a 30-acre storage yard, a new 8-lane truck gate, and four new cranes.
