VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) - The new Valdosta High school is getting closer to reality.
At the city council meeting Thursday, Valdosta's mayor and council were expected to approve a bond resolution from the school system.
The resolution is required by the state constitution and will allow the school system to use the bonds to help pay for the construction of the new high school.
"We're asking them permission to issue an ad valorem tax in case we, as a school district, do not meet our obligations in repaying the bonds," said VCS Finance Director Bob Jones.
In October, the school district expects to start clearing the land for the new high school along E. Park Ave. across from JL Newbern Middle School.
