Wiregrass Georgia Technical College continued Tuesday its tradition of trying to help young south Georgia students get interested in construction and engineering related careers.
The college held its annual construction career day at the Valdosta campus Tuesday for middle and high school students. 12 businesses were on hand to talk to the students.
Brooke Jaramillo, the event's coordinator, said this is something she looks forward to every year.
"Every year we have a brand new group of students who come to us to learn about these careers, career field opportunities. Also, we have new industries on board every year as partners," Jaramillo explained. "So, it's just an exciting time."
Crystal Godfrey, Georgia Power's South Region Education Coordinator, said she, too, looks forward to the event each year.
"We really enjoy coming to this event every year. We look forward to it, we put a lot of thought into it because it's really important to our future workforce to have students interested in these areas," Godfrey stated.
