Man claims to have photographed mystery Valdosta monkey

Tom Howard Tom Howard
LOWNDES CO., GA (WALB) -

A mysterious monkey apparently on the loose in Lowndes County has been spotted, and one man said he has photo evidence.

A man by the name of Tom Howard claims he saw a monkey along the river while fishing, and he also claims he took a photo of it.

He said he was near the boat ramp on the Withlacoochee river just south of Clyatteville.

A light brown spot in the middle of the photo looks almost like a bump on log. Howard claims that is the monkey.

This is just the latest in a string of sightings.

One week earlier, there were around a dozen reported monkey sightings across Valdosta, including near Valdosta State University.

VSU issued a campus alert to students as a result.

Howard says he thought he was crazy when he saw the monkey on Wednesday.

"I was on the phone with a buddy and all of a sudden a monkey walks out and laid down on a tree on the side of the river. I thought I was losing my mind. So, I told him i had to get off the phone and take a picture of this," Howard recalled.

Anyone who sees a monkey is asked not to approach it, and call 911.
