ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Downtown leaders are having an environmental study conducted on the long-empty properties at the corner Front and Pine Streets.
Last month, the Downtown Development Authority approved spending 619-thousand dollars to buy the buildings.
The new Downtown Manager now says an environmental study must be done before deciding whether to go through with the deal.
"The city doesn't currently own those properties but we are just kind of having conversation about just looking at whether or not that's a potential site for acquisition and so we have to do our due diligence to make sure that everything is ok with the properties prior to moving forward," said Latoya Cutts, Downtown Manager.
Cutts says the environmental reviews should be completed within the next couple of weeks.
