VALDOSTA, GA (WALB) -

The Valdosta Police Department had begun as of Wednesday accepting donations for their annual "Shop With A Cop" event.

Their goal this year is to help 25 kids. The police department was able to take 36 kids shopping last year. They hope that by getting the word out about donations now, they'll be able to meet or exceed that number this year.

"They can actually go to the city of Valdosta Police Department and leave a check paid to the order of the city of Valdosta for 'Shop With A Cop' program. They can contact me, I'll come pick it up. They can mail it," said event coordinator, Officer Vernotis Williams, explaining how citizens can donate.

This year's event will be held on December 21st at 7 p.m. at the Walmart on Inner Perimeter.
