AMERICUS, GA (WALB) - The Sumter County sheriff is praising his deputies after they seized almost 11 pounds of marijuana during a traffic stop.
35-year old Marcedes Martinez Pope was stopped early Friday morning for failing to dim his headlights.
Deputies found seven gallon-sized noodle cans in his trunk filled with vacuum-sealed bags of marijuana.
They also seized more than $6,000 in cash and several cell phones.
"Anytime you take ten pounds of dope off the street, that's where ten pounds won't get in the wrong child's hand, and that's where every young person starts at usually is with marijuana," said Sumter County Sheriff Pete Smith
Pope is charged with trafficking marijuana and is being held without bond.
Just days earlier, Crisp County deputies and the US Postal Service seized ten pounds of pot that was being sent through the mail in Cordele.
