Artists raise money for Albany Humane Society

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Artists from around the country are helping to raise money for the Albany Humane Society.
They donated work for tonight's second annual Artists for Animals event at the Albany Museum of Art.
80 pieces of jewelry, photography, woodwork and other art were auctioned.
Organizers say it's critical to support the Humane Society.

"If we don't have the community to help us then we don't have any money to function,” said May Gillespie,Co-Chair.  “We take dogs in from Dougherty County and from the city. We have about 118 dogs and probably about 50 cats there now. So it takes a lot to take care of those dogs and cats to get them ready to get adopted."

They hope to beat last year's total of $6,000.
