SYLVESTER, GA (WALB) -

Police said a gunman's weapon didn't fire when he tried to shoot an officer following a bar fight.

Officers with the Sylvester Police Department were on duty at Celebrities Night Club near South Main Street when the fight broke out.

Shortly after, a second fight started.

"Someone hollered that someone had a gun in the grey Expedition, a Ford Expedition," recalled Lt. Kenneth Washington with Sylvester Police.

That's when one officer chased Jarren Darnell Murray away from the night club.

"He struggled with him a bit," said Lt. Washington. "He did notice there was a gun on him and at that point the subject was clicking the gun, and tried to point it at the officer."

Murray dropped the gun, picked it up and threw it over a fence.

"The gun was retrieved and the gun was checked, upon checking the gun it was found to be stolen," Washington said.

He said the gun was stolen from someone in Dougherty County.

Murray was arrested and charged with assaulting an officer and having a stolen gun in his possession.

The officer was checked at Phoebe Worth. Authorities said he was doing well.
