ALBANY, GA (WALB) - A new College Academy could be named after a former Dougherty High School Principal who died last month at age 84.

School board members discussed naming it the Commodore Conyers College and Career Academy.

Superintendent David Mosely says they have to wait 30 days to make a final decision,  but he thinks it would be a good way to honor a man who gave so much to the community and the school system.

"I'm sure the family will be proud," said Dr. David Mosely. "He earned this honor there's no question about that if it comes to pass. He was a great educator for many years years and years and he's been so supportive even after retirement of the things that we were trying to accomplish here."

The school system filed an application Friday to bring the academy to Albany.  They should hear whether the state approves it in a couple of months.
