Fire halts production at Tara Foods

ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

A fire broke out about 8:00 Sunday night at the Tara Foods production facility on Turner Field Road, and has caused an interruption in production.

Albany Fire Department investigators say it appears that the fire started in the roaster, and then spread to the vents, and into the roof of the structure.

No one was hurt in the blaze, but the damage estimate is about one million dollars at this time, and could go higher.

"Once I clear it, and just say building was to come out and do their inspections, once we clear it, then we still can't release it until Ag notified that it's OK for them to go back in," said Inspector Carlton Russell Albany Fire Department

Kroger officials say they have no idea how long the plant repairs will take.  Firefighters say they were also called to battle a fire in this same roaster August 22nd.
