ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (WALB) - Miss Georgia, Betty Cantrell, won the renowned title of Miss America 2016 in Atlantic City on Sunday night.
21-year-old Cantrell from Warner Robins may be known to have tripped onstage during the evening gown portion of the pageant, but she took the title with grace.
The pageant also marked the return of Miss America 1984, Vanessa Williams, who was back for the first time after resigning the crown following a nude photo scandal. Pageant executive chairman Sam Haskell apologized to Williams on behalf of the pageant.
Cantrell also received scholarship awards for winning the talent, evening wear, and on-stage question portions of the competition.
Her platform is "Healthy Georgia. Strong America."
