ALBANY, GA (WALB) -

Despite the rain, lots of people came out to get rid their old and unused belongings for recycling on Saturday at the Albany Civic Center.

More than 50 volunteers stood out in the rain to collect computers, used shoes, and old medication from about 600 cars for the 11th annual "Go Green" event hosted by Keep Albany-Dougherty Beautiful.

"It's the first year it's rained," said Judy Bowles. "So you know but the crowd is still here it's amazing. I mean we've had over 100 cars so far."

A total of about 5,000 pounds of paper was shredded at the event.
