Budget shortfall concerns commissioners

DAWSON, GA (WALB) -

Terrell County Commissioners are looking for a way to get themselves out of debt.

It's the first time in over thirty years, the county has had to borrow money before the end of the fiscal year. Earlier this year, the Commission took out a half a million dollar loan.

So far, the commission has spent two hundred thousand of that but expect spend the rest by the end of the year.

One Commissioner worries the added debt means the county will have to raise taxes.  "Won't be a millage increase this year but I'm afraid that next year unless we do a better job of managing our money," said Co. Commission Chairman Wilbur Gamble.

The proposed budget does not include that debt. The $7.8 million budget is expected to be approved on the 24th.
