Cordele wants a police chief

CORDELE, GA (WALB) - The recent string of violence in Cordele has one city commissioner calling on the city manager to hire a new police chief soon.

The department has been without one since Bobby Hooper retired at the end of July. Officers have investigated five shootings in the five weeks since then.

"You've got to have someone to answer to so it's very important a known chief. We got to have leadership,"  Cordele Commissioner Royce Reeves.

Colonel Louis Green is serving as interim police chief. City leaders haven't given any update on the search for a new chief.
